Dr. Shanta McClurkin Patrick, the daughter of Jesse and Dianne McClurkin, was educated in DOE schools across America and graduated from William H. Spencer High School in Columbus, Georgia in 1994. She is a Columbus State University alumni earning her undergraduate and graduate degrees in 1999 and 2004 and her doctorate in education with a concentration in curriculum and instruction in 2016.
After dedicating twenty years as an elementary school teacher at Wynnton Arts Academy and an online instructor at Columbus State University, Shanta now serves as an Academic Coach at Dawson Elementary School and an adjunct professor at Miller-Motte.
She is also a licensed REALTOR in Georgia and Alabama with Prestige Property Brokers, LLC. She is the editor-in-chief for the digital publication, Curvy Girls Slay Magazine.
In addition, Shanta is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Soroity, Inc. Rho Rho Omega chapter and the organization, Project Curve Appeal (Curvy Alliance) where she is a spokes model and is the City Movement Manager for the Columbus, Georgia Chapter. She is a part of the elite group of ladies who were named National Faces of Curve Appeal. She is the President of the Board of Directors for Boyz 2 Men Outreach in Columbus, Georgia.
Shanta is the creator of the Dr. Shanta McClurkin Patrick Creative Writing Contest that awards students in grades K-12.
Shanta is the co-author of the dynamic book, Crown of Thorns: Diary of a Beauty Queen, a book that shares the stories of triumph of multiple pageant queens who have overcome obstacles and difficult times in their lives. Her chapter reveals her experience as a rape survivor at the age of 14. The book was released in April 2016. She is currently working on a solo book project entitled, Just Call Me Daddy, which examines the dynamics of the father-daughter relationship.
Shanta is featured in the music video, “Such a Lady” (2016), a song that encourages young ladies and girls to carry themselves with respect and dignity at all times.
Shanta is the “co-Mack” behind the online fashion boutique, Mack Couture.
Shanta has participated in numerous runways shows, photo shoots and does speaking engagements for women’s empowerment in various venues. She has done some print work for the plus size boutique, Thiq Boutique, which is based in Atlanta, GA, has appeared in +Girls Magazine, was on the cover of Curve Appeal Culture, is featured on the Thickness Tees website, and was featured in “Full Figured Fierce Plus Empowerment Week”, “Louisiana Fashion Week”, “Mack is the New Black”, “Picturesque in Pink”, “Albany Fashion Week” and Rock and Roses Fashion and Hair Battle”, “PHAT Girl Fresh Presents: Lifestyled”, and has modeled for Ashley Stewart, Catherine’s Plus, VDinx, Kushions, Thiq Boutique, Mack Couture and many more.
Shanta has written and starred in several gospel stage plays to include “A Dysfunctional Christmas”, “A Christian Carol”, and “The Prayer Journal” that have been produced on a local level and has had a two-page article in Curve Appeal CultureMagazine.
Before she developed polyps on her vocal chords, Shanta was a lead vocalist with the group, Voices of Deliverance, with whom she recorded and released two CDs and went on tour.
Shanta is the creator of PHAT Girlz Fitness, a cardio and toning workout that is specifically for women of all shapes, sizes and abilities.
Shanta is the former Mrs. Columbus Plus America, 2015 and Mrs. Southeast Plus America.
Shanta is the mother of 17-year-old Catherine and 15-year-old Marcus. They reside in Columbus, GA.
Her vision is to change the idea that the world has about women and to encourage them to live their happiest, healthiest life…NOW! She knows that she CAN have it all!
